据传孔子也为麒麟所送。孔子在出生之前，有一麒麟来到他家院里，口吐玉书。玉书记载着这位大圣人的命运，说他是王侯的种子，却生不逢时。这是著名的「麟吐玉书」的故事。孔子出生后，也被称为「麒麟儿」。有杜甫诗为证︰君不见徐卿二子生奇绝，感应吉梦相追随，孔子释氏亲抱送，并是天上麒麟儿。""后来，人们将别家的孩子称为「麒麟儿」
